2010-2011 - Our Personal Jewish Journey ... Are you interested in learning more about your Jewish heritage? Would you like to delve deeper into what it mens to be a Jew? Do you want to push yur spiritual horizons in new directions? But rather than sharing in a class, would you rather pursue your Jewish journey on your own? If so, Rabbi Klein, Rabbi Gordon, or Cantor Becker would be happy to meet with you on a one-on-one basis, meeting periodically to move in the direction you wish to pursue. Just contact them, and begin - or continue - your search. Beit Sefer Café A Fresh Approach to Adult Learning! A Beit Sefer is a school. A Beit Cafe is a coffee house. Beit Sefer Café is the best of both! For three Monday evenings in the fall, and three Sunday mornings in the spring, students can take two stimulating classes each week: a single shot (free standing one session offering--a different one each week!) and a triple shot (one class lasting all three sessions). In between classes, everyone will meet at the Beit Café for really good coffee and pastries (stimulation of a different kind!). Watch for the brochure, and register either by mail or through the website! Mondays, November 1, 8, & 15 7:15-8:05 PM Single shot classes 8:05-8:25 PM Beit Café--coffee & nosh! 8:25-9:30 PM Triple shot classes Mixed Doubles This Sunday morning informal discussion group for interfaith families will focus on the issues that are important to you! As a congregation, we are very welcoming to all those who are not born Jewish. In congregational life, including the life-cycle, we try to be as inclusive as possible. Yet, invariably, issues will occasionally arise, Rabbi Klein, together with our Temple Educator, Rebecca Shubert, will offer guidance as we help navigate you and your family through the Jewish year. Sundays, October 3, November 14, March 27 9:30 AM Lunch with the Rabbi Join Rabbi Klein in Manhattan for lunch and a discussion of current issues of importance. A wonderful opportunity for a lively informal interchange of thoughts and opinions! Venue to be announced. Wednesday, November 10 , April 6 Lunch and Learn A joint project of SSTTE and Congregation Shaarei Tikvah. Come and enjoy a delicious weekday lunch at the synagogue, hear a stimulating speaker, and participate in some lively discussion. Three sessions with three different speakers and topics. Watch for the flyers!!! A fee will be charged to cover the luncheon. Wednesdays: October 27, March 23, May 11 Noon Jewish Literature Group A perennial favorite! Informal discussion will center on works by modern Jewish writers and thinkers. At each session, Rita Kashner, well-known author and teacher, will spotlight a different book. Moshe's Tent & Aaron's Sanctuary - A Pre-Passover Event for boys and Men Aged 10 through 120! Join us for a bite of middle-Eastern food and a bagel nosh as we explore some important Jewish values. Moses and Aaron, as they wandered in the desert, were faced with many challenges; we are all faced with challenges as well, whether in school, at home, or at work. Peace as an ideal ... anger management ... taking risks ... living with disabilities ... and caring for the community ... all these are values and challenges that our ancestors had to face, as do we. We will take a look at these values, placing them in the Biblical context and our contemporary world. 9:30 AM Hebrew In 5: Learn to read Hebrew in 5 weeks! It's become an annual tradition at SSTTE: a chance for non-Hebrew readers to master the Alef Bet in only 5 weeks. No previous knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet is required! What a great role model you can be for your kids!
